Finding Motivation in Nature
For me the hardest part about working out is starting. Once I'm at the gym or on the trail, I have no trouble working out. However, when I'm snuggled up on my comfortable couch, or working to finish a long to do list, it's hard to get up or push something else aside to get my workout started. So what to do? Most people would say that this is where self discipline comes into play. That can work, but in my experience it is a little like pulling teeth to make myself do it. In my experience wanting to lose weight only motivates me on a limited basis and usually leads to frustration when I don't see results as quickly as I like.
One of my favorite motivations is location. I found a trail not far from where I live that winds along a river. It is a gorgeous place to walk. I find myself looking forward to hitting the trail there and seeing if I can spot any rabbits or deer today. I can walk, jog, or ride my bike there and I always leave in a better mood than I arrived.
This is one thing that motivates me. Find out what motivates you and feel free to leave it in the comments.
